Certificates of Avatar Translation
Since 2012, Avatar has been certified under ISO 9001:2015 for quality management systems and ISO 17100:2015 for translation services. In 2024, it was awarded the ISO 18587 certification for post-editing of machine translation output. The work and activities of Avatar are regularly inspected by Bureau Veritas Estonia.
The ISO 17100 standard for translation services sets out the requirements for all aspects of the translation process that have a direct impact on the quality and delivery of translation services. This standard includes provisions for translation service providers concerning the management of key processes, minimum qualification requirements, access to and management of resources, and other measures necessary for the provision of a high-quality translation service.
Avatar Translation is also certified under ISO 9001 for quality management systems, developed by the International Organization for Standardization. This standard sets out the requirements for quality management systems. The company must demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer requirements and applicable legal and regulatory requirements, and strive to increase customer satisfaction through the effective implementation of the system.
The standard ISO 18587 for post-editing of machine translation output establishes requirements for both the personnel responsible for the work and the processes involved. By following this standard, translations can be completed more quickly while maintaining a quality comparable to human translation. However, it is important to remember that editing machine translation requires specialised training to make the text read like a human translation. Using a machine translation system allows customers to translate material that cannot be translated otherwise, reduce costs, and speed up the release of products and the exchange of information in specific markets.

High-quality translations from Avatar Translation
What defines a high-quality translation?
Translation is a creative process shaped by the intended function of the translated text. The key to a successful translation is not just language proficiency – it is the process itself and the intended purpose of the text. A professional translation must be accurate and faithful to the source text while ensuring the correctness of its content, regardless of the accuracy of the original. It has to be linguistically correct and internally consistent, adhering to predefined dictionaries, termbases, translation memories, and style guides. The text needs to align with the expectations of the target audience while considering how it fits to the context of the target culture.
How do we ensure translation quality?
Our translators are specialists in their fields and all work undergoes both linguistic and substantive review.
We work closely with clients to understand their terminology and specific requirements. If needed, we create custom style guides and perform thorough terminology checks.
We meet all agreed deadlines and offer an expedited service for urgent translations.
These tools help to ensure faster, cost-effective, and stylistically consistent translations. We also use machine translation with termbases to enhance accuracy and consistency.
Complementary technologies help to detect and correct potential errors before delivery.
